The Mirror of Relationships: Discovering Ourselves Through Others

Hello, Fabulous People! 🌟

Happy Thursday, and cheers to making it beyond halfway through the week! Isn't it a lovely feeling? I've got a Canadian friend who affectionately texts me, "Happy Hump Day, darling!" on Wednesdays. It's a quirky reminder that from there on, it's a joyful slide down to the weekend. 😊

So, let’s chat. I'm my own boss, which means I can flexibly choose my work and leisure days. But let's be honest, even with this freedom, I sometimes miss those weekday hangouts with friends. The life of an entrepreneur, right? It's full of flexibility, yet it can be incredibly intense. I've been passionately crafting the launch of a groundbreaking course on Emotional Eating (stay tuned for more on this in an upcoming episode), and let me tell you, it’s been a journey!

Recently, I took a pause for some self-care. It's crucial, isn't it? We often forget to look after ourselves when we're in the throes of creation and passion.

During this break, I did some deep thinking about relationships. 🌷 The past 24 months have been eye-opening. I have cocooned myself away, interacting closely with only a few friends who allowed me to be unapologetically myself - a rarity these days.

It's funny how life unfolds. I've come to see that even some people I considered my closest friends were in one-sided relationships with me, taking more than they gave. This period has been about re-evaluating who I am, what I stand for, what kind of energy I want around me, and what kind of energy I want to give to the world.

One of my mentors once shared a powerful lesson: "You attract what's in the mirror." This idea clicked with me, and it's become a cornerstone in my understanding of human interactions. We really do surround ourselves with energies that resonate with us based on how we show up for ourselves at a given period in our lives, whether that’s in friendships, business relationships, or love.

Now, let's dive a bit deeper into this. I've noticed a pattern in the type of personalities I attract. Admittedly, I was a bit self-centred in my earlier years - weren't we all in our 20s? As I matured, my interests broadened, and I became more open to the world and people around me. But, interestingly, I've often found myself attracting people who sought to control or use my energy.

This realisation hit me hard. But it also empowered me. Recognising these patterns meant I could start setting boundaries and staying true to what I believe in. No more over-giving to energy vampires!

It's not just about the people we attract; it's about understanding our needs in relationships. In business, friendships, or romantic connections, knowing what we seek is crucial. Are we looking for support, inspiration, and mutual growth? These are important questions to ponder.

This brings me to a crucial piece of advice I’d give my younger self: Understand that relationships are reflections of who you are. They help you discover yourself and understand your needs in a connection.

And let's talk about healing. It’s so important not to drag the history of past relationships into new ones. Go through your healing journey independently. Don’t engage like Scar from "The Lion King," expecting others to handle your past. Instead, aim to emerge like Mufasa – strong, healed, and open to new connections.

In the business world, especially, the dynamics of relationships can be intriguing. As a woman who has climbed to the top of her field, I've encountered many people who were drawn to my success. Some genuinely wanted to learn and grow, while others were there for the ride. It's a balancing act, learning to distinguish between the two and nurturing mutually enriching relationships.

I've learned that it's not about seeking accolades but about building connections that are genuinely interested in your thoughts, your feelings, and your growth. It's about finding those who resonate with your true self.

So, to all you incredible people out there navigating the complexities of life, relationships, and self-discovery, remember this: Embrace your journey with grace, wisdom, and an open heart. Understand yourself, understand your needs, and let your relationships reflect the beautiful person you are.

That's it for me this week. Here’s to happy relationships, personal growth, and an amazing weekend ahead!

Bye for now and keep shining! 💕
